I just revisited your recording of “Wait A Minute” and have to say bada bing! Man, you wrote yourself an absolute gem (no duh Dave!)! Love the backstory to its creation as well.
Having been a fan since the mid-70s it was great to get to chat with Herb at Le Quecumbar in London nearly four years ago before a J2B2 concert. JJ has played his Gypsy Jazz there but this was bluegrass at its pristine best and Herb’s voice was superb- as was all the musicianship. Great concert and really great guys. I hope they can return to the UK again before too much more time has elapsed.
Herb, I have been a big fan of yours for about 45 years now and have yet to meet you. I hope to some day see one of your shows in person, when you sang “If I could only win your love” with Emmylou Harris I became hooked on your singing talents. I have worn out several 8 track and cassette tapes of you singing. I keep an eye on your show schedules and some day hope you tour close enough for me to bring my family to hear you live!..Best wishes to you and yours, Daniel Irvine
Hi Herb,
I noticed in your list of credits that Gene Parsons/Melodies wasn’t listed.
Just saw you at Copper Mountain again, as always it’s a pleasure to have you in Colorado so often. See you next time.
Good Morning,
My husband and I drove from Atlanta to Athens yesterday evening to see you play.Thank you for a wonderful show. I’ve been listening to your music for about fifty years now and it never fails to give me joy. Your vocals were dead on. My husband, who is a bluegrass musician himself, won’t usually go to a concert unless it is something very special and last night was. Thank you for sharing your talent.
I thoroughly enjoyed your sets this past Friday with the John Jorgenson Band in Asheville at the Bluegrass First Class festival. Jorgenson’s intensity and your totally relaxed and laid back presentation played off perfectly against each other while at the same time complementing each other. Thank you two for bringing your Left Coast performance to Asheville.
Hello! I think it was you I recently met at the Post Office on S. Main St in Harrisonburg. I am a window clerk there. My husband and I enjoy bluegrass, bluegrass gospel, and folk music. My husband plays guitar and mandolin. Once in a while he plays the standup bass. You told me you played the banjo with the Dillard’s so I thought I’d check you out. I haven’t read it all yet, but how did you wind up in the Valley and leaving the west coast? Do you like the Shenandoah Valley? Do you still play? Thanks and have a happy new year! Jeanne
Watching DVD of Emmylou Harris Tribute Concert that took place in Washington DC in January, 2015. Blackbird Productions finally released it! It’s amazing to see you sing and play with Emmylou Harris again. I attended the concert and the DVD doesn’t capture the magic of the live concert, but it’s still good. Can’t wait for the finale song of Boulder to Birmingham. It was an amazing moment to suddenly look away from Emmylou and see you standing slightly behind her singing and playing one of my favorite songs. It’s a stand out memory I hope I never forget. … Uhm when are you & Chris coming back to DC/Northern VA? Otherwise when are you two playing around LA (not to be confused with the state)? I realize I’m going to have to travel to catch you 2!!!
Saw Herb last night with the John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band. I expected it would be excellent…it was even better than that. Herb and John were at their best, plus the City Winery in Chicago is a perfect venue for these guys. Please come back!!!!
Herb, I hope you are doing well! I doubt you remember me, but I am Van Page’s oldest daughter and in the 60’s you lived across the street from us on Lakeland Drive in Donelson TN.
Several of us were recently talking about all the great musicians that live or have lived in Donelson at one time or another and this conversation brought back many WONDERFUL childhood memories of you, Ray and the Park’s (my dad’s cousins)! I vividly remember the wonderful music coming from your front porch as you, Ray and others were singing and ‘pickin and grinnin’. I was a teenager then, but you were always so nice and friendly to me!
Thank you for these memories as they are truly a blessing!
So, on April 8, 2016 I was introduced to Herb and his music for the first time - which is pretty astounding considering that I have avidly pursued and devoured just about anything musical from the 1960’s to the present. Somehow he escaped my attention - until I realized that Herb was listed on many of the liner notes that exist in my music collection. And so, that April evening at the Old Town School of Music I got to see and hear Herb - along with Chris Hillman, whom I was familiar with. And I’d like to thank them both for the chance to see two really great talents play superb music for a couple hours. Upon returning home I spent the next 4 hours playing “Wait a Minute” on my guitar until I figured I could do it in my sleep. And I found a Japanese copy of “Southwest” on Amazon, which I’m now listening to…and marveling again at how I never knew about Herb until earlier this month. Hope to catch you in the future - keep it going!
Thanks,
Mike Reiss
Enjoyed the Ann Arbor show with Chris Hillman on Thursday, April 7. There were great vocals and playing by both. The singing seemed to get better as the night wore on as the upper registers opened up. Herb has a sharp wit and contributed some good stories in the stage banter - especially about the ‘Wait a Minute’ song. These are two professionals still at the peak of their careers. No drop off here at all. I’m back at their next show in Michigan.
Forgive me for bothering you. I cannot find any info on the show you are doing with Chris in Carpinteria on June 18th. We’d to see perform again. Can you guide us?
From you I’ve learned about the Louvin Brothers, the Osbornes and so many more.
Thanks for your help and most of all thanks for all the great music.
You should have had had some input into it. It brings back a lot of memories nonetheless.
BTW it’s been a long time since you have been in the vicinity of San Jose. Can you find some time to get down here? We don’t care who you bring with you. Although the ramblers was a pretty good time. At that church.
Got to say you have a wonderful singing voice, we have loved hearing your singing and songs for 40 years, would love to come see one of your concerts sometime. I wore out that song “if I could only win your love” with you and Emmylou. sure hope to cross paths with you some day and enjoy your singing in person! Thanks for entertaining us for so long!
mr. pedersen: i am a newbie in your realm. until 6 weeks ago i did not know of you. now i know your work quite well. and find your subtle understated gentility and sense of compassion to be a perfect persona for a gentleman of your long and well connected career. i am pleased to have the chance to greet you here.
when will the tour locations for early 2016 be available??
with much new found dedication to and care for your work.
an admirer,
jack hibbard
over 65, in south florida and hoping you and chris might happen this way.
Great show as always, especially some of the Dillard’s Stuff. The “Guitar Drop” just about gave me heart failure!!!!
Have you considered doing Single Saddle live?
One question- what is the real name of the song you guys did toward the end of the show with the lyrics something like Maybe it’s me, maybe it’s you. Is it on one of your recordings or with Chris?
Just saw a video of you and Chris Hillman playing and singing “Wait a Minute” at WAMU. How wonderful that was. Would love to see you play live somewhere….I’m in Chattanooga.
Dear Sir ,
once ( 80 something ) you wrote / published a song , which i understood
as a hymn full of Love for your daughter who had been departeted from you
by divorce or so .
I had heard this song and -
being in a similar situation - my interpretation ! -
i wrote a song , as if we had a personal conversation via snailpost
and played it with my band GOLLIWOG for the last 25 years -
Now my friends daughter did put this song into the Internet . YouTube .
I listened to a band that called themselves the Pine Valley Boys that played in a bar in Berkeley in the winter of 1964-1965. I think it was called the Jabberwock. They played a song I had never heard: Wicked Path of Sin. The most memorable thing to me was the chorus which started with a bass line, then a tenor line, then a falsetto line. I didn’t know the name of the song, and couldn’t find a recording for years. I finally stumbled on it on a record of the Kentucky Colonels. I discovered it was a Bill Monroe song. I suppose it is sacreligious to say that I like the Pine Valley Boys version best of all. I found the chorus absolutely exhilarating. It seems more muddy on the two records and can’t stand up to my memory.
I assume you were in this version of the Pine Valley boys.
Herb
A quick hello. Years ago you and Chris and John (Desert Rose Band) did several benefit shows in Santa Maria for your brother and the SMILE organization. I was running the Country radio station there at the time so we were closely involved with the shows. I miss your Mom and Dad they were some of the nicest people I ever met. I don’t have to tell you how proud they were of you. I’ve long since been away from Santa Maria but I want to tell you that of all of the experiences I had in my career working with you and Chris and everyone in the DRB and knowing your parents is still a highlight in my life. I’m glad that you and Chris are still playing together…Love it. Thanks
Hi’
Herb I just stop By to say That I’m a Big Fan of ‘The Desert Rose Band’ I love Them Great Harmony’s you all Do. I’m a singer myself I sing Chris’es songs some Times in my shows. I would love to meet you all Guys one day ok
Keep up the Good work.
Hello Herbert Pedersen,
which is now to get in touch with people of the Desert Rose Band, the third attempt.
I have already written to John and Chris, but no one answers.
Can you establish contact me to Chris or John?
As Mandolin beginner, I would have had technical issues.
Both play mandolin and could help me.
Thank you for your help.
PS: your name sounds North German (Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein).
Were there any German ancestors in your family?
Hi Herb,
I was at your concert at the New Hope Winery in Pa last Friday sitting in the front row at the foot of the stage. (I was the gal with the video that Chris made a comment about.)
Thank you for a really enjoyable evening of song. I had been so looking forward to seeing you and Chris and you did not disappoint! I hope you both come back to the East coast to share your talents again with us. God bless!
Herb,
Thanks for the wonderful concert at Eddies Attic in Decatur, GA August 17th. It was like sitting the living room with friends. I hope you know how much you are appreciated. My brother Tony and I were inspired.
Herb, thanks for coming to Atlanta with the Desert Rose Band. Please Please PLEASE, reprise “Copperfields” in your setlist. Beautiful, understated song. Your voice will always be missed around here until you return.
Hi Herb: Cool website. Saw you and Chris open for Poco a few years back; good show! The Desert Rose Band’s music is nothing less than superb — guitar, bass, pedal steel, drums — country music at its best! Keep on playing and singing. Cheers, js
Dear Herb, I’m Peter Wroblewski from Koetz, Germany, and I would thank you for your time and Attention, at the Bluegrass Festival at Grass Valley. We had a Little small talk after your set with the Roland White Band and we also talked about your visit with John Denver in Munich in 1979 and that your ancestors came from Dinkelsbuehl, Bavaria. GRass Valley was a great Festival for me and we never had such Festivals here in Germany. I also organize some bluegrass Meetings in our area and please feel free to visit our Website on http://www.cwf-koetz.de, there is also a Little bio about our club in english. For me it was a great honor to meet and talk to you. I love your and Chris Hillman’s Music very much and will do also a radio special later in the year if Chris turn also to the 70ties 🙂 Thanks again and all the best, Peter
Just a note of appreciation for the wonderful show that you and Chris put on at the Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, WI, this past Saturday.
I’ve been a fan of you both for decades and it was a long-time dream of mine to get to hear you in person. Let me just say that the performance was 110% of what I expected.
Herb, Was wishing you were closer to St Paul this summer so I could come and see and hear you again, followed you and the Desert Rose band all over way back when. Think you were here last summer or so but was laid up.
Getting too old to be traveling all over like we used to.
Good Luck, Your pictures doesn’t even age you- good.
Hey Herb, My brother gave me Sandman & Southwest in 1977. I fell in love with your harmonies. I’ve looked for those two on CD for years. Recently I found Sandman in South Korea Re-recorded in 2013. It’s the best. It’s been in the car stereo ever since receiving. Also found one copy Southwest in Japan, but seller wanted $70.00 OUCH. I’ll keep trying to find Southwest. On the hunt in Reseda. Thanks for years of Beautiful Music! Terri Anderson
Loafers Glory plays and sings superbly in the best bluegrass tradition. Reminds me of the days when Lester and Earl and the boys touted Martha White Flour for a fine loaf. Nothing better than a glorious loaf and glorious music. Thanks.
A Big Fan
Thanks for coming to Yakima last month. I last saw you in Lubbock, Texas in 1977. I was a senior in high school and took my younger sister to see Leon Redbone. You were with the opening act, Jonathan Edwards. He introduced you to the crowd, and you sang “Our Baby’s Gone.” I have remembered that song all these years and was glad that you played it in Yakima. I hope that you enjoyed playing in Yakima and will come back.
A buddy just let me borrow Southwest / Sandman… I’d love to have an original copy….
Could you tell me how you put Fair and Tender Ladies harmony together … A beautiful song.
Do you ever get up to Oregon? I’d love to put something together and have you come play for us…
It’s hard to put into words how fortunate we feel to have met you and been friends for the past almost 30 years. Very few people get to meet and hang out with their heroes but I have. The first Bg LP I ever bought at the Book Store at West Georgia College was Wheat Straw Suite. Thanks for the hospitality you’ve shown Sally and me over these years and thanks for all the great music. Your friends, Mike and Sally Fleming, Sharpsburg, Ga.
I was interested in the Banjo lessons online. I have played for quite a few years but could never master the “fancy stuff” and the backup up the neck. I learned how to play from the Scruggs book. Could you send me some info. I have skype.
Was great to see you and Chris at the Bristol theatre last Saturday. (8/20/13). I had a great time and had wanted to see you since the 70’s. It was great to see both playing the Carter families guitars.
Hello Herb,
I am writing because I am also a Pedersen! Since our name spelling is different from so many other Pederson/Peterson/etc in the US, I am wondering if we might be related. My father was Paul Andrew Pedersen (New York 1925), uncle Carl Valdemar Pedersen (New York 1928), grandfather Jens Valdemar Pedersen (Denmark 1893), great-grandfather Andreas Pedersen (Denmark 1862), great-great Jens Pedersen (Denmark 1832), great-great-great Peder Larsen (Denmark 1767). My grandfather came to the US in 1921 and lived in Staten Island, NY. He lived most of his adult years in Hopewell, VA, and died there in 1952.
I’ve been doing some research into my ancestry and thought it would be interesting to find someone from the West Coast who was related. I live in the Bristol, TN, area.
Thanks!
Herb

Hello Herb …. just a note of thanks for a really fun show last night in Annapolis! Thanks to you and the guys for traveling East; we miss you out here! I looked it up … last time we attended a live performance (you and Chris) was at XM Radio on July 19, 2002. I think XM called it their “Live” series as a matter of fact, but it was indeed a year after the launch celebration.
We’ll watch for future dates (how about Loafers’ Glory?) in our neighborhood, or perhaps someday we’ll all be in Aspen at the same time. We have only been to the JD Tribute shows one year (2012) and my husband and I both said it could have been better if only you had been a part of it!
Could it really be 25 years since you, me and Bill sat around in the back of the house before Desert Rose dates in the northeast chatting away? Remember those theatres in the round? Desert Rose still sounds great, and especially YOU!
Best wishes for every happiness on your birthday and always, Jackie
Had to think about the answer to that math question for a few seconds too long! See you in Annapolis & Chatham. Will you give some hints about the next tour dates?
Stopped by your page, and Chris’s, hoping to find tour dates for 2013. I’ll stop by again, and if you’re playing in No. Calif., I’ll be in the audience. You boys do fine work, and are national treasures.
Herb, you really opened up my music world in 1963 when you brought your Westport Singers (Pine Valley Boys) to my high school. I was a 14-yr-old freshman totally into folk music since the ripe young age of 3 (Weavers, Kingston Trio, Limeliters, etc) but the music you & Butch & Rich & Dale did that Mon night in that auditorium captivated me! I was already playing guitar but partial to the banjo, with Pete Seeger, Erik Darling, Dave Guard & John Stewart being my childhood mentors, but never had I seen banjo EVER played the way you did it-to me it was uniquely dazzling. After that experience, I couldn’t hold off any longer on my longtime dream of becoming a banjo player, so I ended up getting my first cheap banjo w/paper route money. The following year I got about 20 lessons from Jerry Garcia before he took off w/his legendary band, after which I became one of the resident full-time banjo instructors on the peninsula (1972-82). The funny part is this: I almost didn’t go to that concert that night. I often wonder how my own career might have been different had I stayed home that night in May. At the last minute I decided to go, and so BLUEGRASS was the only word in my vocabulary for the next 12 months. I even went out and bought a red vest. (your band outfit) Happy to say I’ve passed it on to many young people all these yrs & shared it w/many old-timers as well. Herb, a million thanks!!!
Long time fan of your work. I play 5 string, guitar and mandolin and would be much obliged if you could point me in the direction of any resource giving chords, lyrics etc. of your songs. I’ve managed to work most of them out but cannot find much on the web. I am really keen to get the lyrics for “Anna”. I have the Country Gazette album which includes it and can probably get the words from that but I’m particularly concerned with getting it right. I am now 75 so I’ll only be playing at home for my own ‘amazement’! When I was younger I played professionally for a while - very much down the scale - bars and folk clubs. I then trained as a teacher but continued semi-pro up until about five years ago. Many thanks for the great pleasure your music has given me.
Best wishes,
John O’Flaherty
Question ? Is the Tennessee South album available in LP ,CD, or MP3 ? I have the LP but its been played so much its a bit scratchy 😉 kind of like Us old boys 😉
Doug Burkholder
Been listening to you for nearly forty years. Thrilled to be able to see you at Fur Peace Ranch this weekend. Been looking forward to it for a long time!
I met Mike in Las Vegas after a show we did on KOA Radio in Denver, about his latest book, Your Healing Hands. You never know if this kind of interview is on the level or not. Most of these turn out to be flakes or publicity-seeking frauds. Mike came by at my hotel and we did a session to stop the pain in my left shoulder from a skiing injury. He also worked on chronic pain I’ve seemingly had forever in my lower back. By God he did it! I’ve lived with pain for years, and he made it stop. I don’t hurt anymore. The best part is that he calls me frequently in Denver and continues the healing over the phone. It’s Extraordinary … and I don’t how he does it, but he does! He’s one of a kind, and I’m so glad to have met him and his amazing gift.email him no [email protected]
Sandman was playing when I met my now wife. That was 35 years ago. I’ve had two copies. Wore the first one out and the second was recently destroyed. For the past two years, to no avail, I have not been able to find it. Pity.
News of this import CD has arrived! Herb Pedersen’s incredible two albums from the mid 1970s, “Southwest” and his follow up album, “Sandman” on one CD is the best news yet this year.
Herb’s 1976 debut album “Southwest” was released on compact disc both in Europe and in Japan some years ago but only available for a short time and sold out fast. His follow up album, as good….maybe even better, has never been issued on compact disc, anywhere!
Among the great albums recorded and released in the 70s by the Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons, Linda Ronstadt, Rick Nelson, Chris Hillman, Gene Clark, Emmylou Harris, Country Gazette and more, Herb’s two classic albums stand out among them. The first album includes guest appearances by Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Larry Carlton along side noted studio musicians, David Lindley, Lee Sklar, Al Perkins, Josh Graves, Ray Park, and many more with songs, “Our Baby’s Gone” (with Linda & Emmylou), The Hey Boys, a killer bluegrass “Can’t You Hear Me Calling” and his classic song, “Wait A Minute”. On his 1977 second album, “Sandman” Herb is joined by Dolly Parton, the late Lowell George, Johnny Rivers and a return appearance by Linda Ronstadt with songs “Sandman,” “Tennessee Sal,” “My Little Man” and the classic Stanley Brothers’ “If I Lose” with Dolly Parton! So we all know the best thing about these two albums is Herb’s incredible voice and which is only matched by his great songwriting talents!
This 20 song CD will be available soon but we need your help NOW. In order to import this terrific album, there has to be enough orders to make it feasible, especially with today’s increase in shipping costs. But instead of asking for “pre-orders with pre-payment”, all that is needed is your “yes” vote that you ‘would’ be interested in purchasing this CD if and when it is available. You are under no obligation with your “vote” to make such a purchase when hopefully this CD arrives. Just need to “test the waters” to see if indeed there is any interest from the over 5000 of you that received these Sierra Mail Order emails like this. The price for this CD will be no more than $15.00 USD plus shipping costs (orders from outside the US, there is an additional $6.00 handling charge due to the US Postal rate increase).
So if you ARE interested, we need your “YES” vote. Just simply clicking the following link:
Check “yes” and that’s it! Nothing more! With hopefully enough “yes” votes, as soon as this wonderful CD of music is in stock ready to ship, an email will be sent out so that you can place your order. Remember, if you vote yes, but decide later when the CD is available that you do not want to order, you are under no obligation!
Hope to hear from all of you! Have a great holiday weekend and plan on more music surprises the rest of this year.
Warm regards,
John Delgatto, Founder/Owner

Hi Herb, I first came across your music when I bought a number of LPs in the early seventies and found your name amongst the musicians on each and every one.
We saw you and Chris in Chester, England a few years ago and we spoke briefly. What a great show it was.
Anyway I am curious as to the origin of the title Loafers’ Glory. The internet isn’t much use in finding the answer. I would be grateful if anyone could enlighten me please.
It’s a great album by the way
I have been a fan since I first heard Southwest and Sandman at the age of about eleven, still go back to Southwest and your work with Emmylou Harris and Nicolette Larson for harmony. Would love to see you re-release Sandman as a digital download, and if you ever come to Kansas or the Walnut Valley Festival, I would be able to check you off on my bucket list for concerts!
Herb,
I love your harmonies over the years with Chris! I play DRB CDs all the time. Wow, all natural vocals. Such “Natural Vocals” seem to be growing more rare as pitch correnction technology has enabled a new generation of “artists”. Thanks for keeping it “real”!
Warm Regards,
John

Herb, recently, you and Chris were in Greenville, Tx (not that you need to be reminded) and we had the opportunity to catch your performance at the GMA. What a great performance! My wife had no point of reference for what she was about to hear in Greenville - she still speaks of your incredibly great voice/harmonies. After, we spoke about one of the songs you recorded, “Paperback Writer” - Beatles, thanks for sharing that story. That was one of my fav’s back in the 70’s. Additionally, was a huge DRB fan as well. Thanks for all the music and the memories Herb! Bless you and your family sir!

I was happy to be able to catch You and Chris, Bill and Larry at Dave Edwards Barn in Nipomo on the 22nd of Oct. The show was one of the biggest highs Ive had since the old days with Vassar and Dickie back in Fla in the 70s. Thanks for autographin’ the little Baby Martin for me. I’ll try to get back with ya to make sure you get the pix from that evening. They came out well.
I saw you and Chris last Saturday at the South Pasadena festival. Wonderful set. I was hoping for some Pedersongs and was thrilled with “Old Train” and “Wait A Minute”. I briefly thought I was back in the Birchmere on Thursday night in 1978, listening to Starling/Duffy et al. You apologized for your voice, but the crowd thought you sounded wonderful.
Greg

Hey Herb, It was a true pleasure to meet you & Chris at the Appalachian Uprising. Thanks for the photos with me….could not have had a better Birthday gift. Keep on pickin’ maybe our paths will cross again.
Dear Herb,
You don’t remember me but I remember you from St. Mary’s high school. You & Butch taught me how to play the intro to MTA on the four string banjo and the chords to Maria on the guitar. I cannot remember the name of the third guy you and Butch sang with in High School or the name of the trio, but I do remember that everyone loved the music and the trio especially the girls. The last time I saw you play was in Berkeley at the Jabberwalk Cafe on telegraph. My group the Country Club Singers played Thursdays & Fridays and the Pine Valley Boys played Saturdays. Have followed and appreciate your music and the people you have played with especially the Desert Rose Band and The Rice-Hillman-Pedersen CD.
Cheers & Best Wishes
Baynard “Buck” Cheshire
Looking forward to seeing you in Mountain View, Arkansas in Sept….
Have seen you play so many times years ago all over So California. I live 2 miles from the Folk Center the last 17 years. My Dad ( Mel Durham ) loved you guys..

We cammot wait and will bring a crowd with us!Nothing like having great music to look forward to! We’re so indebted to you and your friends for pairing great music with great memories through the years!

Hi Herb,
Caught your show last night @ Hughs Rm. in Toronto. Very special night for all. Both you guys can only be described as musical treasures. I’ve followed you both from the Birds and the Dillards to the present and have to congratulate you on outstanding musical journeys.
“Blue Canadian Rockies” was sublime. I think that came right out of Chris’s subconcious along with Gengis Khan’s sheep.
Take Care and Thanks
Great (as per usual) concert in Chatham, NJ this past Saturday. Thank you very, very much, gentlemen. I’ve seen you several times, and the Desert Rose band several times as well, and you never, ever just go through the motions.
But my favorite concert of all time, admittedly, was one I literally stumbled into. Macy’s in NYC on a Friday afternoon in May 1967, my senior year in college, I was buying darts for a fraternity carnival at Columbia the next day. And I was lucky enough to catch the last half of Buck Owens’ first free concert near the rugd. Loved it so much I waited for the second, full show, which opened with Wynn Stewart. Consider myself very lucky indeed to see Buck at the very height of his greatness, and when Don Rich amd Tom Brumley were in the Buckaroos. It seems odd to note this, but as I walked away from Buck’s show that sunny afternoon when the audience (it was some sort of anniversary for Macy’s) seemed to mainly consist of me, a few clerks on break and Macy’s executives, I realized I’d just become a lifelong country music fan.
And Chris and Herb’s great singing on spot-on harmonies Saturday night only reminded me how sad and annoyed I am that the NY metro area doesn’t have a country music radio station.
Thank you for all the wonderful music all these years. It’s not possible I’ve been listening to you for over 40 years ’cause neither of us is older than 29, right?! After hearing DRB in Colorado a couple years ago and at the Birchmere last August, I truly think you and Chris have improved with age, if that’s possible, because you both sound as good if not better than you did when you WERE 29! Looking forward to hearing you and Chris in Bean Blossom show in Indiana in June. Perfect place to hear two of my favorite bluegrass musicians.
Herb,
Really excited to see you in Bozeman tomorrow night (3-25-2011) at the 100-year-old historic, nearly acoustically perfect Ellen Theatre. It will be a treat to hear you guys again. Been playing your various recordings for years on my radio shows, going back to I guess late 1970s. I am wondering if you know where a person might find one of your solo records from late 1970s, “Sandman?” I did not see it on your CD page. My copy got wore out, then the truck cassette player ate it, and that was it, except for the hours of pleasure I got from the harmonies on it.
Thanks for all you continue to do in music!
Rik James “Americana Backroads” (KGLT-FM, Bozeman, MT)
Rik…I have Sandman.I had the lp put on cd-r by a good friend of mine in Oregon.I could only put this on a high bias tape for you.No way to burn cds.Just thought I’d let you know.Paul J.
I have always enjoyed your contributions to Linda Ronstadt’s illustrious masterpieces. So heartfelt, passionate, harmonic. You are truly a gifted ARTIST, Sir.
Hello Herb: We are looking forward to seeing you again at Hugh’s Room in Toronto, May 2011.
‘Really enjoyed your last visit! Sincerely, Madeleine and Mike
Herb…….saw you a few months ago in Bozeman, Montana with the Desert Rose Band (what a treat) and now again you will be here with Chris Hillman at the end of March. We are so fortunate! Thanks for many years of great music!
Hi Herb.
A big hello from a country way up north “The Faroe Islands”.
I love the cd´s with you and Chris Hillman.
Thank you for very good music.
Love from Laila;))
I just revisited your recording of “Wait A Minute” and have to say bada bing! Man, you wrote yourself an absolute gem (no duh Dave!)! Love the backstory to its creation as well.
Herb, Happy Birthday … looking forward to seeing you & Chris in Denver next month … again, have a very Happy Birthday!
Been a while since I’ve seen you and Chris play. See that you will be a “friend” of Crosby in June in MA, will you be his friend in VA also?
Since you will be on the east coast as a friend, will you and Chris be doing any other shows?
Was listening to Take Me in Your Lifeboat recently and your banjo was great, almost as good as your work with Beck.
Herb
Just got your first LP, Southwest. Very enjoyable….thank you!

Music writer, music fanatic, record collector and archivist
Greetings from six miles south of Belfast Northern Ireland.
Simply many thanks for all the marvellous music you, Chris, and Jon have made over the years.
In particular, the concert with Takamine guitars on you tube.
Keep on doing what you do.
Hi Herb,
I noticed in your list of credits that Gene Parsons/Melodies wasn’t listed.
Take care,
Dolores (Doe Doe)
Happy Belated Birthday, Maestro!
Great performance tonight at The Ark in Ann Arbor. You and Chris are amazing musicians.
Subject: Carpinteria show June 18, 2016
Hello Herb -
Forgive me for bothering you. I cannot find any info on the show you are doing with Chris in Carpinteria on June 18th. We’d to see perform again. Can you guide us?
From you I’ve learned about the Louvin Brothers, the Osbornes and so many more.
Thanks for your help and most of all thanks for all the great music.
Warren
Hey Herb, the contact page doesn’t work. No biggie though, as long as you can read this. What do you think about this article? http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/2015/02/laurel-canyon-music-scene . I don’t like Vanity Fair. They trashed a good friend of mine.
You should have had had some input into it. It brings back a lot of memories nonetheless.
BTW it’s been a long time since you have been in the vicinity of San Jose. Can you find some time to get down here? We don’t care who you bring with you. Although the ramblers was a pretty good time. At that church.
I hope your new year is going wonderfully!
John

Greetings Herb,
Great show as always, especially some of the Dillard’s Stuff.
YouTube .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNleNjmQonQ
Did i understand it correct ?
Thank you for reading this up to here .
Heiner Schädel
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for all the joyous music you have made all thee years and I’m happy to have been able to share just a bit of it!
Thanks
Good to put a face with the many great songs you have written

Hello Herbert Pedersen,
which is now to get in touch with people of the Desert Rose Band, the third attempt.
I have already written to John and Chris, but no one answers.
Can you establish contact me to Chris or John?
As Mandolin beginner, I would have had technical issues.
Both play mandolin and could help me.
Thank you for your help.
PS: your name sounds North German (Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein).
Were there any German ancestors in your family?
Alfred
Mesmerizing magical moments in music last night with EmmyLou! You were magnificent!!! Thank you.
Fabulous music in Annapolis, MD with J2B2! I love your singing!!!
I just start playing some old LPs and i realy enjoy listening to Your LP Southwest ! Greatings from Norway.
Hi Herb,
I was at your concert at the New Hope Winery in Pa last Friday sitting in the front row at the foot of the stage.
My best,
Jory Stubblefield
That’s our Mother singing “Farther Along”
Herb, thanks for coming to Atlanta with the Desert Rose Band. Please Please PLEASE, reprise “Copperfields” in your setlist. Beautiful, understated song. Your voice will always be missed around here until you return.
Hello Herb, thank you for all of your great music. I’m hoping to see you with Chris (and the DRB?) at the end of August in New Hope, Pa.
Alan Bataille
Hi Herb: Cool website. Saw you and Chris open for Poco a few years back; good show! The Desert Rose Band’s music is nothing less than superb — guitar, bass, pedal steel, drums — country music at its best! Keep on playing and singing. Cheers, js
Saw the John Jorgensen Blue Grass Band at Wimborne ( UK ) last night, a wonderful gig and brilliant performance from all four of the band.
Fantastic fast, accurate playing, great singing and harmonies to cry for
I must admit I thought that Jon Randall had it all, he looked “cool” he played briliant guitar and what a voice he has ! Truly awesome.
Got it! Kinross, Scotland with John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band.
You been gone too long. What’s with the no concert zone in DC/Northern VA/PA/NJ/NY? I ain’t doing Klan country concert in VA.
Herb
Just a note of appreciation for the wonderful show that you and Chris put on at the Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, WI, this past Saturday.
I’ve been a fan of you both for decades and it was a long-time dream of mine to get to hear you in person. Let me just say that the performance was 110% of what I expected.
Peace and love to you always,
Dennis
Happy Birthday, Buddy! Hope you have lots more!
Christine sends hugs…..we hope to see you soon, now that I’ve joined the “ranks of the retired”.
Take Care & Keep Pickin’.
Steve
Thanks.
A Big Fan
great site Herb, here’s a shot from Roland White at Viva last year.
My email info is still up on your website?
A buddy just let me borrow Southwest / Sandman… I’d love to have an original copy….
Could you tell me how you put Fair and Tender Ladies harmony together … A beautiful song.
Do you ever get up to Oregon? I’d love to put something together and have you come play for us…
Hi Herb - Saw you and Chris at the Triple Door in Seattle last night. You guys were great! Keep on singing and picking!
Didn’t know I’d be in for a math quiz!
Just thought I’d sign the book and say how much we look forward to seeing you perform at the Clark Center in April…
Tony
Mike Wilson
Was great to see you and Chris at the Bristol theatre last Saturday. (8/20/13). I had a great time and had wanted to see you since the 70’s. It was great to see both playing the Carter families guitars.
Just wanted to comment that I was at the ArtsCenter in Carrboro, NC Sunday Aug. 18th. Great concert that you and Chris Hillman did.
Thank you so much! I play guitar and you two are an inspiration for me!
Thanks again.
Bill Jackson
Just got home from a wonderful night of entertainment at the Kirk Ave Music Venue, Roanoke, VA. performance by Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen.
Hello Herb,
I am writing because I am also a Pedersen!

I believe that “Sandman” is finally being released on c/d. Does anyone know anything about this?
Forgot a picture
Europe’s waiting too long for you and Chris, or even better The Desert Rose Band
Had to think about the answer to that math question for a few seconds too long! See you in Annapolis & Chatham. Will you give some hints about the next tour dates?
Hi Herb if you get some down time check out my re-invented rock & roll tunes
Ricky and the Recovers http://www.soundcloud.com/psyche-cartel - rich dean
Stopped by your page, and Chris’s, hoping to find tour dates for 2013. I’ll stop by again, and if you’re playing in No. Calif., I’ll be in the audience. You boys do fine work, and are national treasures.
Herb,
Curious about your schedule in 2013.
Will you be around the Sacramento area?
Always a pleasure to hear you.

Hello, I am wondering if you have been to Pennsylvania lately. Have you?
Do you give guitar lessons online via skype
I love your playing on Dan Fogelberg’s High Country Snows. I listen to it all the time. You are an amazing player!
Pity.
HERB PEDERSEN-SOUTHWEST & SANDMAN CD
Just simply clicking the following link:
http://freeonlinesurveys.com/app/showpoll.asp?qid=233559&sid=5m86chsm1fz11z0233559&new=True

Bless you and your family sir!
herb, what is the guitar you are playing curently? i love the balance and response it has off the basssier notes. please let me know. by the way….. my cousin and i know your stuff and chris’s so well it’s so much fun to play songs off bakersfield and the barn albums.

Greg

Dear Herb,
You don’t remember me but I remember you from St.

Have seen you play so many times years ago all over So California. I live 2 miles from the Folk Center the last 17 years. My Dad ( Mel Durham ) loved you guys..

Hello Herb,
My husband and I have enjoyed, you, Chris and the boys several times at McCabe’s in Sta. Monica. I once remided you that you should come back to Mountain View Arkansas to the Folk Center and it appears YOU ARE! We cammot wait and will bring a crowd with us!Nothing like having great music to look forward to! We’re so indebted to you and your friends for pairing great music with great memories through the years!
Needless to say a fan,
tj
Hi Herb,
Caught your show last night @ Hughs Rm.
Happy Birthday Herb!!
Herb,
What an honor and oleasure it was to work with you, Vassar and David Grisman back in 1996.
Warm regards to a great artist,
Bob Zachary
Thank you for all the wonderful music all these years. It’s not possible I’ve been listening to you for over 40 years ’cause neither of us is older than 29, right?! After hearing DRB in Colorado a couple years ago and at the Birchmere last August, I truly think you and Chris have improved with age, if that’s possible, because you both sound as good if not better than you did when you WERE 29! Looking forward to hearing you and Chris in Bean Blossom show in Indiana in June. Perfect place to hear two of my favorite bluegrass musicians.
Thank you for making music!
Hope Chris sings Happy Birthday to you at the Wilmington concert, otherwise I will. Looking forward to the concert!
Herb,
Really excited to see you in Bozeman tomorrow night (3-25-2011) at the 100-year-old historic, nearly acoustically perfect Ellen Theatre.
